Norlights Montessoriskole Stavanger

Norlights Montessoriskole Stavanger is a primary and a lower secondary school offering education to children aged 6-16.

The school was established in 2016 in Buøy, Stavanger, and later shifted its premises to Forus region of the same city.

As the city’s only Montessori school, it offers a holistic and interdisciplinary education.

The school’s teaching staff consists mainly of Montessori teachers with general teacher background and teachers with higher education.

Montessori pedagogy facilitates students themselves actively seeking and receiving knowledge.  Students’ creativity and imagination are stimulated through an interdisciplinary approach in all subjects, this also includes art& design, drama and music.

The school has an optimal experience in EU projects. A number of projects have risen and led to collaborating with local foundations. The school has been active in collaborating in the community and exchanging knowledge and experiences with other educational centers.

The school has coordinated and managed this project “MATH methodologies and tOOLS for Elementary SCHOOLS” by providing the information to the partners and the reports to the National Agency. (Diku) The school was also in charge of budget, schedule and quality control during the project.

With this project, the school aimed to promote the use of Montessori Materials in education as the materials are a tool that help the child to understand what is learned through the association of abstract concepts with a concrete sensory experience.

Pasos

PASOS is a non-profit organization, located in Polanco, a rural area, in the north of Spain, where the population had limited access to formal and nonformal education. They aim to improve the community they live in and to protect the environment which hosts us, as human beings.

As an organization, PASOS wants to offer their community new educational and ludic opportunities, to improve and develop their personal and professional lives and social inclusion.

In that purpose, they design, prepare, and implement information meetings, training courses (also for trainers and educators), workshops, concerts, events, international exchanges or mobilities and debates on current relevant topics and different areas of learners’ interest (emotional care and education, integration, personal growth, digital education and innovation, environmental education, etc).

They base their work in 3 main cornerstones: Enhance knowledge, embrace diversity, empower people. In all their activities, the contribution of the participants has a relevant role, since listening to their proposals, wishes and ideas is one of the central working methods, which generate exchange and debate.

PASOS main objective is to become a platform for their community (including those with disabilities or marginalized), to discover the world and all it has to offer, as well as to discover their personal interests and values. The mission of the organization is to develop and support the use of non-formal education, to boost creativity, to support environmental consciousness, to foster entrepreneurship, healthy lifestyles, democracy, and human rights, and to develop solidarity and tolerance.

PASOS invites youngsters to be involved in youth policies development or to design and start their own ventures. They also encourage them to actively participate in initiatives for the general welfare of society, in social or environmental campaigns, in human rights defense, etc.

Some of their staff are teachers and educators, who have a special interest in pedagogy and the way human beings learn. Thus, they also belong to other local groups dealing with alternative schooling (like forest, Montessori, or Waldorf Schools), which respect the person’s rhythms and interests, recognize the different intelligences and the value of both learning by doing methodologies and not judging the learning processes.

They work, coach and train youth workers, parents, teachers, social organizations and public institutions (as they act as multipliers), to develop their skills and acquire new tools (from the non-formal education) to be used with their young learners. PASOS has strong relationships and partnerships with local authorities, and educational centers, and other relevant regional, national and international NGOs”.

Sindi Gümnaasium

The first school was opened in 1873 in Sindi as an elementary school for children of foreign workers. The present building of our school dates back to 1901. The peculiarity of our school is that in the same building are taught both Estonian and Russian students.

Sindi Gümnaasium has long history and lots of traditions.
Historically Sindi has been a multicultural industrial town. This demands very big responsibility from school to cope with big social and multinational problems and the school must teach parents and students in this changing world.

Today our school gives general education and trains the pupils to face different challenges of life with success. There are 361 students between the ages from 7 to 19 at our school. The life of our school is very active. Our students can learn different languages: English, German, Russian and take part in different hobby classes which are free for children and parents. There are also many different mandatory subjects at Sindi Gümnaasium. Students can choose economy, media, philosophy, psychology and other subjects to prepare themselves for real life.

There are 45 teachers at our school who are friendly and helpful but also very professional.

Our school motto is: skills and knowledge give freedom. All the members of our school value ethic, school traditions, appreciate all the graduates and want to learn from the experiences of others.
